Joeboy
Biography
Joeboy, born Daniel Anidugbe in Lagos State, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who emerged from 6Music Africa and emPawa Africa — the talent incubator founded by Mr Eazi — to become one of the most commercially successful new Afrobeats acts of the 2019 to 2022 period. He was discovered through the empawa100 online programme in 2018 and his debut single Baby became an immediate hit, establishing his smooth, melodic approach to Afrobeats love songs that would become his signature. His debut album 'Somewhere Between Beauty/Magic' (2021) was a carefully constructed project that showcased his ability to craft consistently strong, radio-friendly Afrobeats with genuine romantic warmth. Songs including Beginning, Alcohol, and Lonely became staples on Nigerian radio and streaming playlists. His vocal style — warm, unhurried, and capable of effortless falsetto transitions — made him particularly beloved by fans of melodic Afrobeats who appreciated emotional accessibility alongside danceable rhythms. Joeboy has collaborated with Mr Eazi, Camidoh, and other artists across West Africa, and his music has found particularly strong audiences in East Africa and the diaspora. He has won multiple awards including AFRIMA Best Artist West Africa nominations and has built a consistent international streaming presence. He is regarded as one of the most reliable melodic Afrobeats acts of his generation — an artist whose lack of controversy or stylistic experimentation is offset by the consistent quality and emotional directness of his recordings.
