Majek Fashek, born Majekodunmi Fasheke in Benin City in 1963, was a legendary Nigerian reggae musician known as the 'Rainmaker' for his belief that his music could bring rain. He achieved international fame with the 1988 album 'Prisoner of Conscience' and its iconic track 'Send Down the Rain', earning him comparisons to Bob Marley. Fashek's music blended reggae with Afrobeats and carried powerful messages of faith and social justice, and he remained a revered though troubled figure until his death in June 2020.
