Sonny Okosun (1947–2008) was a Nigerian musician from Warri, Delta State, who created a distinctive sound blending rock, reggae, and traditional Itsekiri music called 'Ozzidi.' He became one of Africa's most significant protest musicians with his 1977 album 'Fire in Soweto' which addressed the anti-apartheid struggle. His work drew international acclaim and he was one of the first Nigerian artists to achieve global recognition outside the highlife tradition.
