Victony
Biography
Victony, born Anthony Victor Dada in Lagos State, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who emerged as one of the most promising voices of the 2020s wave of Nigerian Afrobeats acts. He had begun developing his musical identity when a serious motorcycle accident in 2020 left him with significant injuries, requiring a lengthy period of recovery and rehabilitation. Rather than derail his career, the experience deepened his artistic perspective and sense of purpose, and he returned to music with a renewed determination that produced his breakthrough recordings. His 2022 single Soweto (a remix initially featuring Rema, WurlD, and Davolee, later featuring Rema alone in the version that went viral) became a massive Pan-African and international streaming hit, demonstrating a gift for melodic hooks and relaxed, sensual Afrobeats that appealed across generations and geographies. His debut EP Outlaw (2022) introduced him to a wider audience and confirmed him as one of the most distinctive new voices in Nigerian music. Victony has continued releasing music that earns strong streaming numbers and critical appreciation for his vocal tone and instinctive melodic sensibility. He signed to a major distribution deal and has performed at major festivals. His trajectory since recovering from his accident has been celebrated as a remarkable story of resilience in the Nigerian music industry, and he is regarded as one of the artists most likely to achieve genuine international crossover in the coming years. His music combines romantic themes with a laid-back confidence that feels fresh within the current Nigerian pop landscape.
