Biography
Wande Coal, born Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe on June 28 1986 in Lagos State, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter celebrated for his smooth falsetto vocals and versatile ability to effortlessly blend Afrobeats, R&B, and pop. He rose to prominence as a signed artist on the Mo'Hits Records label in 2008, quickly establishing himself as a vocalist of exceptional range and sensitivity in a genre not always associated with melodic sophistication. His debut album Mushin to Mo'Hits (2008) was a critical and commercial success, producing the massive smash Bumper to Bumper which became one of the most played Nigerian songs of 2009. He followed with Wanted (2012) and Afrohit (2018), both of which demonstrated his ability to remain relevant across different eras of Nigerian pop. Songs such as Baby Hello and Iskaba became signature crowd-pleasers at Nigerian events and clubs throughout the 2010s. Wande Coal has won multiple awards including Headies and MTV Africa Music Awards, and has been consistently cited by peers and critics as one of the finest vocalists in Nigerian music. His songwriting contributions to tracks by other artists have further demonstrated his creative breadth. Though he has never reached the commercial ubiquity of some contemporaries, his artistic reputation among musicians and informed music listeners is particularly high, and he is frequently called one of the most underrated talents of the Afrobeats era.
