Biography
Ladipoe, born Ladipoe in Lagos State, is a Nigerian rapper and one of the most technically accomplished MCs in contemporary Nigerian music. He grew up partly in the United States before returning to Nigeria and building a hip-hop career rooted in lyrical precision, cultural hybridity, and an ability to engage seriously with both Nigerian and global rap traditions. He signed to Roc Nation and Mavin Records, making him one of the few Nigerian rappers to secure deals with globally prominent music companies. His breakthrough came with the 2021 single Know You featuring Simi, a playful and lyrically sharp hip-hop-influenced track that became one of the most streamed Nigerian songs of the year and introduced him to audiences well beyond the core hip-hop fanbase. The collaboration demonstrated his ability to craft commercially accessible music without sacrificing the lyrical intelligence that distinguishes him from more mainstream contemporaries. His 2021 song Feeling featuring BNXN became another significant hit. Ladipoe has released a series of acclaimed projects including the Afin Wa EP (2019) and About 30 EP (2021), each of which demonstrated his consistent technical skill and his commitment to advancing Nigerian hip-hop as a legitimate and sophisticated art form. He has been consistently cited by Nigerian music critics as one of the most gifted lyricists in the country and has won AFRIMA Best Rap Hip Hop in Africa nominations. He remains one of the most credible voices in Naija Hip-Hop.
